Despite all of the apparent prosperity of the 20th century it was not without its turbulence. This dichotomy between progress and depression, light and dark, was the inspiration for Twilight of Man. The color palate is unlike any other Huhn work in the series; using a complimentary color palette of purple and gold, while both symbolic of opulence, these colors are also symbolic opposites. Taking notes from José Maria Sert’s 1932 mural for the Rockefeller Center, Huhn depicts a titan pulling back the night veil of depression, illuminating the city with optimism and progress.
